Every breeder verified by Bernedoodle Kennel Club agrees to uphold the following code. These are not suggestions. They are requirements. Breeders who fail to meet these standards are removed from our directory.

01

Commitment to breed healthy dogs, with sound temperaments. Dogs that are healthy and well suited to family and community life that represent the Bernedoodle temperament, structure and health.

02

DNA test parents, the individual puppy, or know through parentage what to expect in terms of disease markers and coat type.

03

Make decisions for the long-term betterment of the breed through tracking health information and data across generations, aiming to breed from the healthiest bloodlines, while maintaining genetic diversity and temperament as a priority for the long-term betterment of the Bernedoodle community.

04

Never sell puppies to pet stores, brokers, or third-party resellers.

05

Provide a written health guarantee of no less than one year for genetic health conditions.

06

Offer lifetime support to every puppy buyer.

07

Socialize all puppies from birth through placement. Follow ethical protocols of care for each puppy and parent, setting each puppy up for success in their new home.

08

Be honest about limitations and challenges of the breed, including grooming, exercise needs, and potential health risks.

09

Appropriate veterinary care and health evaluations should be given to all puppies before going home by a licensed veterinarian.

10

Commit to ongoing education in canine genetics, health, and welfare, and share knowledge openly with the community.
